A LAZY GIRLS GUIDE TO UNI

September 23, 2019

If you want to get a first this is not the blog post for you...

Everyone that knows me will know I am a very lazy person. Even though I might look like I have a very organised life on Instagram, I actually sleep way more than I should and procrastinate a lot. If there is any easier way to do something I'm finding it. I think it really frustrates people that I put in very minimal effort sometimes and still seem to do good. So I'm going to share the secrets of my success. Uni lectures stop reading now please, thank you.

WORD CAN DO YOUR REFERENCES FOR YOU AND HERE'S HOW
Yes I said the dreaded word references, every uni students nightmare. So i thought everyone knew this trick, but any time I've mentioned it to a classmate they look at me in disbelief. So there's basically this tool on Word that allows you to select the reference style, you know Harvard, Chicago, etc. Then you just select the type of reference (book, journal article etc.) and it gives you a form to fill out with all the details you'll need you click done and it gives you the in text citation, right beside the quote you've just written. But the best part is when it's 4am and you've stayed up all night writing your assignment you can just click a button and it gives you your entire bibliography and then you can go to bed. Thank me later, cause this will save your life.

YOU DON'T HAVE TO READ ENTIRE JOURNAL ARTICLES
So this is a tip I've stumbled upon recently when doing some 'academic research' for a project. Basically listening to Spotify and opening random journals until I find the shortest one. But I've found that if its some sort of research study you can just scroll to the conclusion it tells you the outcome and it saves you the hassle of reading the whole thing. If theres a graph with results, copy and paste it and label it 'Appendix 1' cause it'll make you look really smart without actually knowing what you are talking about.

I'VE NEVER ACTUALLY BEEN TO THE LIBRARY
Ok I went once or twice in first year but it was more for the experience you know. Since I transferred to Jordanstown I've never actually been to the library. It's not really my scene to be honest, I prefer to work from the comfort of my own home. If this is you Ebooks are your best friend, get straight on to that Online Library and get your books online, then you can also copy and paste things straight into essays and it saves you so much time.

YOU CAN REFERENCE LOADS OF BOOKS WITHOUT HAVING TO READ THEM
So basically this is really sneaky and you probably aren't supposed to do this but when I use a book or article to reference I try to find things they've referenced, use them and the reference them as if I read the original book. So say you are reading a book and they've have a quote from another author within the text. I'll find out all the info for the original book and put it in my bibliography as well so I could have 5 books from reading just 1 and it looks like I did way more work than I actually did.

CHECK YOUR UNI EMAILS REGULARLY, IT'LL MAKE YOU SEEM LIKE YOU CARE
Like when you are on the bus or just chilling take two minutes to check your uni emails and reply to anything you need to. It'll actually make your lecturers think that you care even if you don't. This will make sure you don't get any red flags from them and it only takes two minutes and can be done from the comfort of your bed.

IF THEY USE A 9AM LECTURE AS AN EXCUSE NOT TO GO OUT, THEY ARE NOT YOUR FRIEND
These people should be avoided at all costs.

KEEP YOUR PRIORITIES RIGHT
Once you have that coveted uni email you can sign up for loads of discounts through UniDays which will save you loads of money. Boohoo Student is also fab as you get free next day delivery and it actually comes next day which is a rare thing in Northern Ireland. Also now you've got a new email you can make new accounts and sign up for loads of free trials again, would recommend Amazon Prime Student - 6 month free trial which includes Prime Video, Music and free delivery. I mean you can definitely use that Prime Instant Video to watch loads of series cause you've saved loads of time on your uni work with these tips.
